California Governor Gavin Newsom has been touring red states in recent weeks, raising eyebrows, and sparking speculation about his political ambitions. Some have suggested that Newsom is laying the groundwork for a 2024 presidential run, while others believe he is simply trying to boost his national profile.

A viral video appeared online this week of Newsom clapping it up with a Florida audience while they sang “ He’s Got the Whole World in His Hands” a traditional African-American spiritual. Part of Newsom’s claims about DeSantis is that DeSantis is attempting to take away civil rights and voting rights.

During the visit he told the audience he was crawling out of his skin for you guys,’ Fox News reported.

DeSantis and Newsom are widely expected to face-off as presidential opponents at some point. Newsom is garnering attention for his enthusiasm for national topics including gun control and the cultures wars.

Newsom has DeSantis squarely in his sights (pun intended) and he vehemently criticized DeSantis signing of a permit-less concealed carry bill in Florida in a segment with MSNBC’s Jen Psaki:

As of March 2023, California had the most mass shootings in the United States, with 25 total shootings since 1982. (Source)

Opinion: Gavin Newsom claps it up in Florida while California declines

California has long been seen as a beacon of progress and innovation. But in recent years, the state has seen a number of setbacks, including a decline in population, a rise in homelessness, and a worsening housing and crime crisis. Some critics argue that these problems have been exacerbated as a result of policies enacted by Governor Gavin Newsom, who has been in office since 2019.

But what Newsom seems less fired up about is what is actually happening in California. There are pressing issues facing California the governor should address. Issues like the high poverty rate, budget deficit, homelessness and drug crises, rising violent crime. And, California has the highest sex trafficking rate in the country, to name a few.

One of the most visible signs of California’s decline is its population loss. In 2020, for the first time in over a century, California lost population. This decline was driven by a number of factors, including high taxes, high housing costs, and restrictive regulations on businesses.

Another sign of California’s decline is its economy. The state’s economy has been growing more slowly than the national average in recent years. This slowdown has been attributed to a number of factors, including the state’s high cost of living, its regulatory environment, and its aging population.

California has also seen a decline in its quality of life. The state’s crime rate has been rising in recent years, and its schools have been struggling. In addition, the state’s infrastructure is in need of repair.

Many of these problems have been exacerbated by the policies of Governor Gavin Newsom. Newsom has raised taxes, increased regulations on businesses, and made it more difficult to build housing. He has also failed to address the state’s crime problem and its infrastructure needs.

Newsom is a charismatic and popular figure, and he is seen by many Democrats as a potential future leader of the party. He is also a skilled fundraiser, and he has already raised millions of dollars for his new political action committee, the Campaign for Democracy.

This PAC is focused on helping Democrats win elections in red states, and it is a clear sign that Newsom is serious about expanding the party’s reach. It is still too early to say whether Newsom will run for president in 2024. However, his tour of red states is a sign that he is considering it.

Newsom is a progressive Democrat who supports a number of policies that are popular with the state’s Democratic voters. If he does run, he may face an uphill battle explaining how his record of progressivism should be an example for the nation to emulate.

It is too early to say whether Newsom’s tour of red states will be successful. However, it is clear that he is serious about trying to win over voters in these states. If he is successful, it could have a major impact on the 2024 presidential election.
