Body-cam video of Andre Hill deadly officer-involved shooting by Ohio Police Officer Adam Coy

Andre Hill, 47, was shot and killed early Tuesday morning by Columbus Police Officer Adam Coy. Coy a 19-year veteran officer has been relieved of duty.

The City of Columbus has released the body-worn camera footage from the fatal shooting. The shooting happened early Tuesday morning. Officers were dispatched to the 1000 block of Oberlin Drive on the report of a suspicious vehicle. Officer Adam Coy did not turn on his camera until after the shooting, but there is technology tied to the camera that records a 60-second lookback, but this feature does not record audio.

Footage of Tuesday’s incident shows the victim walking toward the officer with a cell phone in his left hand, but his right hand was not visible, the Department said. One officer fired his weapon, striking the man. A statement released by the city said Andre Hill was visiting someone at the home. A weapon was not recovered at the scene and body camera footage also shows a delay in rendering first aid to the man, the city said.

“I am deeply saddened, frustrated, angry, demanding answers of what happened in our community earlier this morning. I am committed to transparency and accountability in our division of police. We will seek the truth wherever it takes us. And justice will be served,” Mayor Andrew Ginther said.
